![]() I am a huge fan of the adventure show The Amazing Race so when my daughter moved to Denver, my son and I wanted to do something out of the ordinary when we went out to visit. One that will will take advantage of agan in the near future. We would recommend this tour to anyone who likes the outdoors and can ride a bike ( we only ride bike occasionally ourselves). An extra added bonus that we were not expecting. When we made periodic stops along the way down they gave us a chance to observe the views, look at plants and animals, and shared with us, all of the whats, hows, and whys of the area. Getting back to our guides Ryan and Marcel, They both doubled as historians. We opted for the cog up/ bike down tour and would recommend this adventure rather than just the drive up/bike down because we were able to see two entirely different sides of Pikes peak- both very close up. We were a little leary of biking all the way down the mountain in twenty and thirty degree temperatures but once the ride got started the adrenaline kicked in the temp was not an issue. Five minutes into the experience we knew that we were in good hands on this ride. These men were just not guides, they were pros all the way! Full of positive energy and enthusiasm. We arrived at our designated meeting location and time and were promptly greeted by Ryan and Marcel, our guides for the Cog Up-Bike Down Tour. We're hoping to be back soon enough to be able to possibly take the intermediate class! At the end each one of us had an opportunity to don the glove and hold the falcon for a photo op.Įveryone at Broadmoor Outfitters from check-in, to transportation, to our tour guide, was extremely friendly and helpful. Along the way we were able to also see a demonstration of the falcon catching food mid-flight. Again we got to stand still while the bird flew from the tree to the falconer standing behind us, flying right next to us with such precision, control, gracefulness, and quietness (except for the bell attached to his leg!). We drove out to a park and took a walk with the beautiful mountain backdrop, learning more about falconry, while the falcon followed us in the treetops. It was really interesting when they flew right by us you couldn't even hear them. From there we went indoors to see more beautiful birds, including a massive owl. There we got an interesting history of falconry while the falconer was holding one of these impressive birds on their glove. We were first taken to an outdoor area where several birds of prey were kept. Our family really enjoyed this unique experience learning about falconry.
